January - March, 2018

*January 4, 2018 -  “Farm Bill Impact in Arkansas on SNAP” presented by Ellen Vollinger in partnership with Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance and Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families
Location: Clinton School of Public Service, Little Rock, and AR.
Speaker noted that the current benefits are $4.00 each day per person.  It was noted that the goals should be to: 1) Make benefits more adequate, 2) Protect the existing public-private partnership and 3) strengthen it to include “Cooking Matters” Classes.).

*February 12 & March 12, 2018 - Attended a meeting of Conway County Hometown Health Coalition. The goal of the Coalition is to improve the health of the community in which we live. Location: Morrilton, AR. The Coalition has begun to investigate grant funding sources for the development of a community garden. A Director of a local 501 C-3 discussed their possibility of getting funding for a community garden.

*Volunteer - Garden at Community Supported Agricultural (CSA) Project in Central Arkansas twice during the quarter primarily due to inclement weather conditions.

*Thursday, March 9, Arkansas Farm to School Program - Attended a conference entitled, “Farm To School Summit” in Conway, AR. ` New information provided on the Americore “Food Corp”. Web address: www.foodcorps.org
