  • Activity was undertaken as Lead Partner for "Take Action: Healthy People, Places, and Practices in Communities" Project funded by U.S. Office of Disease Prevention & Health Promotion and the Regional Health Administration.

East Los Angeles  Boys and Girls Club

 
 Target population: parents / guardians and their children

4-weeks( 1.5 hrs per week) on:

  • Healthy eating choices-including cultural foods
  • "Food Label Reading" when cooking at home and  when eating outside of the home
  •  Modification of recipes and taste testing of traditional cultural foods
  • Practical physical activity

 Target Population: Farmers¡¯  Market attendees

  • Nutrition education and food demonstrations at a local Farmers Market. Mable Everette, RD was named as one of the "County of Los Angeles 2008 Volunteer of the Year."

United American Indian Involvement

 Target population: Native American families and their children

 

  • Nutrition and physical activity classes 4 weeks (@ 2.5 hours each) for families with children under 12 years of age focused on childhood obesity prevention.
  • A poster session was prepared as a result of this class for the "First California Native Youth Diabetes Prevention and Treatment" Conference held April 2008 in Sacramento, CA
